Event Description: A 2-day special event! Admission is free (although a donation would be gratefully accepted.) Register your attendance at: http://cslsj.org/events/ Ava DuVernay's 13th is a documentary that introduces the words of the 13th Amendment and argues how this amendment subsequently led to mass incarceration and criminilazation in the U.S. due to a loophole that has been wielded as a devastating political tool. We will begin Friday evening - 6:30-9:30 PM - with a pot luck (bring a dish to share, preferably representative of your culture) and screening of the documentary. We will then reconvene Saturday morning - 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM (breakfast provided and bring a brown bag lunch if you choose) - for a dialogue and exploration of how we can challenge these instances of racism and dehumanization. The event is facilitated by diversity trainers Sheryl Thomas Washburn and Johnson Odell, with Rev. Susan Overland.
