Please bring your own lunch to this workshop. San Jose is now ranked the most expensive city in the United States to live, and therefore to work. It is a core driver of our increasing homeless population. It causes the question of “will my children be able to afford living here?” This problem threatens the health of our economy and the vibrancy of our communities. Building more, dense housing is part of the solution, but the affordability of that housing is key. Why is that so critical? Join us to learn more.
The Foundations of Affordable Housing Workshop was created by SV@Home to respond to community concerns and confusion about housing affordability and homelessness. Grounded in Santa Clara County’s unique context, the Foundations program examines the current state and policy underpinnings of our current affordability crisis, how affordable housing works as part of the solution, and specific, measurable ways affordable housing benefits the entire community.
Broad public understanding of affordable housing empowers business owners, residents, leaders, and policymakers to make informed decisions to protect residents from displacement, preserve existing affordable housing, and the need to build more affordable housing.
