Since 2000, Erik has worked with his business partner and father, former San Jose Planning Director Gary Schoennauer, to build The Schoennauer Company into the premier land use consulting and lobbying firm in San Jose. The Schoennauer Company has assisted developers and property owners in securing City approval for over 10,000 residential units and numerous office, retail, medical, church and school projects throughout the Santa Clara Valley, with a strong specialty in the City of San Jose. Erik has made more than 80 project presentations before the San Jose City Council and the San Jose Planning Commission. He has also worked with City officials in Cupertino, Saratoga, and Campbell. The Schoennauer Company specializes in advice, consultation and management of the land use entitlement process, including all aspects of communication with the City, the community, interest groups, and the media. Some clients have included Novellus Corporation, Monolithic Power Systems, Brandenburg Properties, WTI, Inc. (Wyse Technologies site), Longs Drug Stores, Barry Swenson Builder, SummerHill Homes, 7-Eleven, Taylor Morrison Homes, Divco West Properties, Evergreen School District, Rocketship Education Charter Schools, Braddock & Logan Group, The Castle Group, Irvine Apartment Communities, Pulte Homes, KB Homes, Equity Residential, Avalon Bay Communities, Zero Waste Energy Development and Trumark Companies. The Schoennauer Company led the team that developed the master plan for transit-oriented development at the San Jose Flea Market Site adjacent to the planned Berryessa BART Station.
